Members of the club will be calling this week to renew subscriptions to the annual Tourlestrane Supporters Draw, launched at our recent AGM. This is the largest of our fundraisers for the year and your support as always would be deeply appreciated.

The Cumann na mBunscol indoor hurling competition began on Monday last in Banada Hall.  Castlerock NS was the group winner. They now advance to the next round to be played on Friday February 9th.

The 2001 Indoor Hurling Parish League began on Monday last, in Banada Abbey Hall. Gerard Kiranne’s, Sligo team took on Kevin Leonard’s Galway team. The Under 14 boy’s football team manager for 2001 is Anthony Brennan. This is a new undertaking for him and he is wished the very best by the club.

The special Hurling meting was held on Saturday last. The following are the team managers for 2001. Senior: Jerome Quinn, Eamonn Walsh, & Martin Brennan, Under 16 Enda Gallagher & Martin Brennan. Under 14: John King & David McVeigh, Under 12: Leo Gaughan & Anthony Collins. Indoor training begins on Monday evening next at 9:30pm in Banada Abbey Hall, under the supervision of Enda Gallagher.

Congratulations to Dennis Johnson and the Sligo Under 21 team on their win over Fermanagh in the Hastings Cup play off. Stephen King, Patrick Egan and Padraig Brennan represent Tourlestrane on this panel. Congratulations also to Sligo IT and James Curley of Tourlestrane on their recent league success.

Deepest Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Kathleen O’Hara, Cloongoonagh and Mrs. Christina Mullarkey, Glenavoo on the recent death of their brother Noel Mullarkey, Mullaun, Cloonacool.

The AGM was held on Sunday last in Banada Abbey Hall with a good attendance. A feature of this meeting was the production of a booklet that contained all the printed reports, for the members present. The reports given by the officers for 2000 reflected on the success of last year at under age, as well as senior level. The support for the teams both monetary and in attendance at matches and training was acknowledged by the officers. We all look forward to a sporting 2001.

Delegates are: County Board ;Stephen Henry and Paddy Henry®, Hurling Board; Martin Brennan, Minor Board; Paddy Henry©, Divisional Board; Paddy Henry (R), Banada Abbey Hall; Austin Walshe. Team managers for the year are:Senior & Under 21; Neil Egan, Selector Tony Carty, Minor; Michael Henry, Selector; Paddy Henry©, Under 16; Jerry Lundy, Selector; Michael Marren, Under 12; Stephen Henry, Selector; Leo Gaughan. The position of Under 14 manager will be decided at the February monthly meeting.

Recently the Millennium Draw was held in Henry’s Village Inn Tourlestrane. The winner of £300 was Jo Haran Loch Talt, £200 Jack Cooke Drummartin, £150 Ray & Kathleen Tobin, Tullinaglug £100 Peter& Breege Leonard, Banada The ten £50 winners were Anthony Collins, Banada, Eugene Kennedy Toberroddy, James Walsh, Toberroddy, Tommie Leonard, Carrigeen, Bertie Marren, Dawros, Kevin Kiranne, Drummartin, Richard Brennan, Bunninaden, Matt Walsh, Tullinaglug, Liam & Kate Murphy, Tullymoy, Jane Long, Banada. Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to all who supported the draw. Tickets will go on sale shortly for the Confined Members Draw 2001.

Congratulations to Maura and Anthony Brennan, Drimina, on the birth of their baby recently.

The future of hurling within the parish will be discussed at a special hurling meeting to be held on Saturday, January 20th at 8:00pm in the Hilary Rooms Banada Abbey Hall. All those interested please attend.

The next monthly meeting will be held in the club house on Monday February 5th,2001 at 9:00pm.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the Carty family, Annagh and the Durkin family, Drummartin on the  death of Mrs. Bea O’Hara recently, in Chicago, USA.

The special Christmas and St Stephen’s night Bingos were outstanding successes. Many thanks to all who supported the Bingo by attending. Our thanks also to all those who sponsored the numerous spot prizes. Bingo returns to 8:30pm on Tuesdays for the New Year.

Thursday December 21, 2000 was a historic day for the club as County Board PRO, Fr. Liam Devine, launched our new web site. Friends from all over the world can now keep in touch with events within the club as they happen. A special medal presentation dinner was held on Thursday last in the Yeats County Hotel, Curry to honour the minor and under 16 teams for their accomplishments this year. After a few short words by team managers Jerry Lundy and Michael Henry, team captains James Leonard and Micheal Henry presented the medals to the respective teams. The club would like to thank Mr. Don Diranne and the staff of the Yeats County Hotel for the excellent meal and service on the night.
